Antero Resources will become the lead tenant in One Union Station, a new 110,000-square-foot office building near Denver's historic Union Station, the energy company and building developers jointly announced Friday.
The deal will allow construction of the building to move forward, advancing the redevelopment surrounding the former train station, which is being converted into a multimodal transit hub and boutique hotel.
The five-story One Union Station, a joint venture of East West Partners and Starwood Capital Group, will be at the northeast corner of 16th and Wynkoop streets.
Chris Frampton, managing partner of East West Partners ? Denver, described having Antero as the lead tenant as "incredibly exciting."
Frampton said Antero has signed a lease for 70,000 square feet and will have offices on the third, fourth and fifth floors.
"We are excited that we will be building under the LEED Gold (environmental) standards, and we're excited to be a part of the entire redevelopment of the historic station and the public plazas between each building," Frampton said.
Construction will start Aug. 1 . No financial details were released.
Alvyn Schopp, vice president and treasurer of Antero Resources, said the independent oil-and-gas-exploration company is committed to downtown Denver, where it has offices.
By moving to One Union Station, Antero will bring its employees under one roof and have room for new employees at the rapidly expanding company.
Schopp said that when the company moves in Dec. 31, 2013, it expects to have about 150 employees at the location.
"We will be looking right at Union Station," Schopp said. "It is a great cornerstone property," noting that light-rail and bus service will be just feet away.
Frampton said One Union Station will bring high visibility to Antero and will be easy to find for people transacting business with the company.
AndersonMasonDale is the architect for the project in conjunction with Semple Brown Design.
Paul Rady, chairman and chief executive, said Antero Resources has "been committed to Lower Downtown Denver for over a decade. One Union Station will provide our employees with a state-of-the-art building in a location that they will love."
