Yemenis protest against former president's allies

SANAA, Yemen (AP) ? Tens of thousands have rallied in Yemen's capital, Sanaa, and several other cities to demand the removal of the former president's relatives and allies from key military and security positions they still hold.

The demonstrators took to the streets after Friday prayers vowing to continue their protests until the sons and family members of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh are expelled from their posts.

Saleh, whose son and nephew command the powerful Republican Guard and Central Security forces, stepped down in February after more than a year of protests. The opposition accuses him of meddling in state affairs and trying to undermine reform efforts by his successor, Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi.

A big demonstration was organized in Taiz, Yemen's second most populous city. Smaller rallies took place in other cities.
